Building Better Roads for a Brighter Future in Edwards County

A Vision for Growth

Southwest Kansas is on the brink of a significant economic expansion with the new Hilmar Cheese factory in Dodge City. This development is closely followed by the establishment of Blue Sky Dairy in Edwards County, a massive project set to transform the local landscape. At MJE, LLC, we are excited to lead this transformation and upgrade the county’s road infrastructure to support this exciting growth, paving the way for a brighter future in Edwards County.

Facing the Challenge

The existing roads in Edwards County, primarily composed of loose sand and gravel, were simply not up to the task of handling the increased traffic from Blue Sky Dairy. These roads lacked proper drainage and became impassable during wet conditions—a significant hurdle for the trucks and vehicles that would soon frequent them. The challenge was clear: we needed to secure funding, navigate local and state regulations, and push forward with determination and optimism. The benefits of this project to the community are immense, including improved transportation, enhanced safety, and increased economic opportunities.

Our Collaborative Approach

At MJE, we believe in the power of collaboration. Working closely with Edwards County Commissioners and the Edwards County Economic Development Center, we secured a $3 million grant from the KDOT Economic Development Program. Blue Sky Dairy also made a large financial contribution to this project,  further solidifying this partnership. Regular meetings with local stakeholders ensured project goals and progress alignment, highlighting the community’s integral role in fostering economic development and improving living standards. The active participation of the community in this project is crucial to its success.

Innovative Solutions for a Stronger Region

To meet this project’s unique demands, we implemented custom-designed paving techniques and advanced drainage systems. These improvements were specifically tailored to safely handle the heavy milk tankers and increased traffic. Our strategic approach ensured systematic progress, with each segment of the road development meeting the highest standards.

Passion for Rural Life and Progress

At MJE, our clients’ success drives our own. We are passionate about rural life, helping our clients, and creating opportunities. When our clients and the Southwest Kansas region thrive, it is a win for all of us. We take pride in doing the earthwork that shapes our area, literally and figuratively. Our team loves the collaboration that comes from big ideas, and we have the staff, relationships, and equipment to turn those ideas into reality.

A Testament to Teamwork

“Working on the Edwards County Road Project has been an incredible journey of collaboration and innovation. Bringing together KDOT, Blue Sky Dairy, and the Edwards County Economic Development Center showcases our community’s commitment to progress. The improved infrastructure will support the new dairy and enhance the quality of life for all Edwards County residents.” — Heather Jantz, COO of MJE, LLC.
