Dodge City Packing Plant Lagoon Closure
MJE closed an evaporation pond in Dodge City in 2010. Due to many environmental guidelines and stipulations, this project included excavating 16,000 tons of hazardous materials from berms and hauling material to the landfill for proper disposal according to KDHE guidelines.Location

Challenge
There were strict KDHE specifications in place for this type of closure. Soil caps were new to the client at the time, however, MJE had extensive experience installing soil liners similar to the KDHE specifications for this project.
Collaboration
MJE worked closely with the client and the testing company to complete a 60,000 CY soil cap in compliance with all KDHE guidelines. MJE’s experience in this type of work gave the client the confidence needed to move forward with MJE for this project.
Custom Solution
MJE provided a detailed plan for excavating, segregating, moisture conditioning, processing and compacting materials for the soil cap. Since that time, MJE has completed numerous additional soil caps for landfills and ponds for other clients based on the quality work performed on this job. We have also continued to work with the client on various projects over the past 10 years.
