Hy-Plains Feedyard Research & Development Facility

This one-of-a-kind facility was built with dual purposes in mind. Equipped with full cattle processing capabilities, it also functions as a research facility for the beef industry. A 3,000-sq.-ft. banquet hall with state-of-the-art audio/visual presentation capabilities and an observation deck, this facility is custom-designed with an intent to educate young and old alike about the beef industry.

Challenge

The biggest challenge for this project was incorporating the client’s vision while prioritizing cattle flow and traffic of large groups of people throughout the facility.

Collaboration

This facility was built within a few miles of our home office and allowed for constant face-to-face interaction with ownership as well as consistent project oversight. Hy-Plains has become a close friend and industry partner to MJE and this has allowed for frequent collaboration outside of the initial project within the community.

Custom Solution

This was the first research facility MJE was tasked with designing and has become a showpiece for both Hy-Plains and MJE. It has a concrete snake and tub design with adjustable alleyways for smooth cattle flow and allowed MJE to refine our No-Backs and tub-eliminator gates. MJE and Hy-Plains have also partnered with several area businesses to host a Youth Education day for 4th and 5th-grade students in the area.
