Midwest Feeders

Midwest Feeders has continued to be a premier cattleman's choice feedyard since 1992. With continual growth, a 30,000-head feedyard expansion was needed in 2022. Aggressive scheduling demands, supply-chain issues, and managing specialized crews for every aspect of the job were challenging.

Location

Ingalls, Kansas

Challenge

The biggest challenge for the Midwest Feeders expansion has been that it encompasses every aspect of turnkey feedyard design including:

  • a shipping & receiving facility,
  • a processing facility,
  • a satellite hospital,
  • a storage tank with a booster pump,
  • a water recycling system,
  • a Dakota Well building,
  • painting of the entire facility, and
  • lagoons & earthwork.

Collaboration

Collaboration from designers, project managers, subcontractors, and internal crews was key to making this expansion happen in less than one year.

Painting facilities can be a tremendous challenge in Western Kansas. High heat, wind, and blowing dirt from nearby earthwork make optimal conditions nearly impossible. However, the careful collaboration between operators, supervisors, and painters helped take this facility to the next level.

Custom Solution

Positioning of the different facilities is crucial to cattle health. In addition, the importance of strategic facility location will help with natural cattle flow and reduce energy expenditure for cattle as they travel through the facility. Another critical aspect of this job was ensuring that pens could be filled with cattle behind the MJE crews, allowing investors to capitalize on their investment before the project was even complete.

"Making the decision to use MJE for any future project will be an easy decision for me."
